IN ADMINISTERING the Bank Holding Company Act, the Federal Reserve Board weighs the public benefits from proposed acquisitions by bank holding companies (hereafter called BHCs) against possible adverse competitive effects.~BHCs are asked to discuss public benefits of proposed acquisitions in applications to acquire banks and noubanking firms.
